How long have you worked at Steel Green?

It’ll be four years this May. I got connected through a friend who knew there was an opening, so I came out and started in quality control. I’ve been at Steel Green ever since.

What do you do for Steel Green?

I started in quality control and service, going through machines after they came off the line and fixing anything that needed attention. Now I’m in parts and service, helping customers troubleshoot issues over the phone and jumping in with parts when needed.

What motivates you to come to work every day?

The people here make it easy. It’s a good group of people, and we have fun doing our jobs.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Spending time with my kids and grandkids, going to sporting events mostly. My oldest has gotten back into RC cars, so we mess around with those, and I’ll watch movies when I get the chance.

What’s one thing you want customers to know about Steel Green?

We’ve got a great group of people here who know what they’re doing. A lot of the guys you talk to actually build these machines, so we do our best to help customers and get them what they need.

What’s something people might not know about you?

I’m pretty much an open book. Not a whole lot of secrets here!

How long have you worked for Steel Green, and why did you choose to work here?

I’m coming up on five years now! I had some previous experience with machinery, and I was looking to get back into that. I like working with my hands and I like that Steel Green’s a small company, so when I saw the role pop up online, I applied.

What is your current role at Steel Green?

I assemble tanks, hose reels, and booms. I also build optional add-on accessories like the seven-gallon supplemental tanks. I’ve been making a lot of the seven-gallon tanks lately.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

My family motivates me. I’m here to provide for them.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I like that it’s a close-knit group of guys. We all look out for each other and I’ve made quite a few friends here. They treat us really well.

How do you like spending time when you’re not at work?

I’m usually keeping up with maintenance on the house, doing yard work, and other normal old guy stuff.

What’s one thing you’d like customers to know about Steel Green?

Steel Green is pretty much top-of-the-line when it comes to spreader/sprayers, and if you can think of it, we can probably do it. We’ll go the extra mile for the customer to make sure they get what they want.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I love to play guitar, and I’ve been playing since I was 10. I love ‘90s alternative, and Nirvana is actually the band that got me into playing music.

How long have you worked for Steel Green, and why did you choose to work here?

I’ve worked here at Steel Green for about four years, but I’ve been building spreader/sprayers for 13, maybe 14 years. I’d worked with the owners at one point at another company, and they brought me on. When they gave me a call, showed me the machines, and asked me what I thought, I said, “Cool, I’ll do it!”

What is your current role at Steel Green?

I just moved over to quality control, and before that I was group lead. I was out there on the line making sure machines were correctly assembled, everyone had the materials they needed, and things like that.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

I’ve known Steel Green machines for a long time, and I’ve watched them grow and develop like you would with your kids. I love the company and my crew, I take a lot of pride in the machines, and it really feels like it’s everyone’s shop.

What is your favorite part of your job?

It’s the camaraderie, family environment, and the closeness of it. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no one here above you or below you; we all work side by side. We have such a tight-knit group that when you have a suggestion or idea, we get together to discuss it. You’re truly heard.

How do you like spending time when you’re not at work?

I’m a full-time father, so the answer is being with my kids. Whenever I’m with my kids, it’s all about them!

What’s one thing you’d like customers to know about Steel Green?

There’s not very many companies out there that would work on their competitors’ equipment like we do. You bring a competitor’s machine in and we’ll fix it, make sure it runs well, and get it cleaned up. We value the customer instead of being against our competitors, you know? That’s really hard to find, and I’m really proud that we do that.

How long have you worked for Steel Green, and why did you choose to work here?

I’ve been with Steel Green since the start, which was back in 2018. I was with another spreader/sprayer company and was looking for a change, so when the guys said they needed some help, I jumped on board.

What is your current role at Steel Green?

I’m out on the line, so I assemble our SGXL and SG54 machines and help keep things moving.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

I have three dogs and an army of kids, so helping provide for them is the key for me. We also have a four-day workweek here at Steel Green, so the flexibility allows me to spend more time with my kids.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love working with my hands, and getting to turn a bunch of different parts into a finished product is really satisfying. Plus, knowing the machine is going to help make a customer’s life easier adds a lot of meaning to the work.

How do you like spending time when you’re not at work?

I mentioned my kids before, and I love spending time with them. We’re always out hunting, fishing, and camping. I also do some construction work in my free time.

How do you feel when you see a Steel Green out in the wild?

I’ve seen more and more of them over the years, which is really cool. In seven years, the company’s gone from just starting out to having machines all over the country. You know, it’s funny to drive by and see someone using a machine, and asking yourself, “I wonder if I built that one!”

How long have you worked for Steel Green, and why did you choose to work here?

I’ve been here for just over 3 years now. I was looking for something with a better work environment and a place that would give me a good work/life balance.

What is your current role at Steel Green?

Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable—my main tasks are entering in invoices, customer payments, keeping track of credit card receipts, paying vendors, and keeping our records organized.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

I really enjoy the environment at Steel Green. Everyone is passionate about what they are doing here, and everyone has their own special role that plays into helping Steel Green grow and succeed. Working with people who are so motivated and care about what they do makes it easy to come in and do my part. I truly enjoy my role at Steel Green!

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love organizing! I also really enjoy the detailed aspect of my job—I do my best to keep a close eye on everything that I can and to be as accurate as possible.

What’s one project or accomplishment you’re especially proud of?

Last year, we had some major billing issues with a freight company. Although it was a challenge to get this resolved, I was happy that we were able to get it cleared up in a timely manner and save money in the process.

How do you like spending time when you’re not at work?

I enjoy spending time with my family. As a family, we enjoy a variety of activities, including traveling, playing games, working on our small farm, and collecting Pokémon cards. I also enjoy spending time in my garden and baking. My recent baking obsession has been bread. My garden plans this year will result in me being able to make my own spice blends, pizza sauce, salsa, jams, pickles, and so much more.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I enjoy both art and music, with a taste in music that spans a wide range of genres—from rock to rap. On my way to work this morning, I listened to Stevie Wonder, Glass Animals, ABBA, Anderson Paak, and lots more! I also enjoy painting with acrylics and watercolors.

How long have you worked for Steel Green, and why did you choose to work here?

I’ve been here for about two and a half years. One day, Scot Jones gave me a call and asked if I wanted to handle inventory for Steel Green. I’ve known Scot for a long time and always had a lot of respect for him and Brent Mills, so I decided to go for it. Before that, I worked as a plumber.

What is your current role at Steel Green?

I’m the Warehouse Manager at Steel Green, which means I oversee all the inventory, manage incoming and outgoing trucks, and put away deliveries. I step in to solve problems when they come up—like if the guys on the line need something. I do what I can to make sure whatever it is happens.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I enjoy the challenge of keeping everything running smoothly around here.

What’s one project or accomplishment you’re especially proud of?

I am especially proud of getting the warehouse organized. I’ve worked hard to give everything a proper place and put systems in place. I’ve implemented procedures for checking in steel and similar materials, which has made a huge difference. Now, when something comes in, you immediately know what you’ve got and where it goes.

How do you like spending time when you’re not at work?

Outside of work, I like to fish, golf, play any kind of sport, and spend time with my son. Fishing is one of my favorite things to do, and the biggest fish I’ve caught was a 22-pound northern pike up in Minnesota. I’m also really into golf. My personal best is a 73 at the Trophy Club. Really, I’m up for just about any kind of sport—I enjoy them all.

Spending time with my wife and son is a big part of my life. My son and I, who share a birthday, love to work on the lawnmower and truck we have, play golf, toss the football or Frisbee, or ride bikes and four-wheelers together. I love to share my passion for fishing with my wife. I’m lucky to spend time with both of them.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Something most people probably don’t know about me is that I like to build crafts out of wood. Around Christmas time, I’ll make things like Christmas trees out of skids. I’ve also made wooden pumpkins out of skids and small tree trunks. I sell a few pieces here and there, but I mostly give them to family.

How long have you worked for Steel Green Manufacturing, and why did you choose to work here?

I’ve worked at Steel Green for about a year. I worked in the automotive industry for 43 years and wasn’t quite ready to retire, so when I heard Steel Green was hiring, I gave the job a shot, and I ended up really liking it.

What do you do at Steel Green Manufacturing?

I mainly work in quality control, inspecting machines and ensuring they perform as expected when they come off the assembly line. Steel Green will also bring me in to work on and test their new concepts, and that’s always fun.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

I like what I do, and it’s not boring. Problem-solving different issues that pop up with the machines offers fun challenges throughout the day.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Getting to work on something new and innovative. The SGXL is one of my favorite new machines to work on. It’s so much bigger than the other units, and there are several differences that make it unique.

How do you like to spend your time when you’re not at work?

I like to participate in micro-mini tractor pulls. A micro-mini tractor pull is 1/16 the size of a full-sized tractor pull. The little tractors have real-life engines that burn fuel, and they go down a track and pull a sled like the full-sized ones. I build everything from scratch, and we travel all over the Midwest to participate in the pulls.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I like cats. I have two brindle cats at home, and they are fun companions. They like to jump in my lap when I’m sitting out in my garage.

How long have you worked for Steel Green Manufacturing, and why did you choose to work here?

I’ve worked at Steel Green for three years. Since I had been working in the lawn care industry for the last 10 years, I was already familiar with this type of equipment. I also love to build. So, Steel Green was an easy fit.

What do you do at Steel Green Manufacturing?

I work on the assembly line, building hoppers and hopper motors. I also help manage the guys on the line. Working in assembly is fun because we get to see all the different parts come together to create a fully-working machine.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

The camaraderie. We all work together well and enjoy the work we do.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I really enjoy building in general. But putting together individual pieces to create something that will be actually used by someone in the industry is my favorite part of the job. It’s great to be a part of something like that.

How do you like to spend your time when you’re not at work?

When I’m not working, you can usually find me taking care of my four-acre property or building something. I rebuild tractors and cars. My favorite rebuild was a 1952 Ford tractor. It was in shambles when I started working on it. It took me three years to find all the necessary parts and get them all back in working order, but I did it.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Most people know me as a mechanic, but growing up, I was really into basketball. I played guard.

How long have you worked for Steel Green Manufacturing, and why did you choose to work here?

I have worked at Steel Green for two years, and I chose to work here because the people I work with are great. We all get along and work well together. In fact, my counterpart and I work so seamlessly together that when one of us needs to miss work, we can easily fill in for one another or jump around and make sure everything still gets done. We’ve got a good crew here.

What do you do at Steel Green Manufacturing?

I am a welder at Steel Green. I can weld any metal part that is needed on the machine, but I spend most of my time welding the frames. I’ve been welding for 18 years and enjoy it. My enjoyment seems to have rubbed off, too. My youngest son already welds.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

Being able to support my family. My parents instilled in me that supporting your family and making sure you do everything you can for them was very important. I do my best and try to.

What is your favorite part of your job?

The people are my favorite part of my job. In previous jobs I’ve had, all my co-workers did not get along, and it just makes the job less fun. That is not a problem here. Plus, Steel Green likes to try out new ideas on their machines, and I always look forward to that. I have a few new things I need to weld up here soon, actually.

How do you like to spend your time when you’re not at work?

When I am not at work, I like to play horseshoes, cornhole, and darts. Playing horseshoes is my favorite, though. Every Thursday night during the summer, we go to the New Ross Conservation Club. They have horseshoe pits there. There’s a group of us that go, sometimes up to 20 people. We draw names and play a tournament or two.

When it gets cold out, I have a friend that has a nice little pole barn that has a little man cave in it with two dartboards, a pool table, and cornhole boards. I usually hang out there during the cold months.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I enjoy cooking and usually cook every night after work. My favorite type of cooking is meat smoking, and I smoke pork butt, pork loins, and ribs the most. My go-to side is ranch potato salad. I’d have to say it’s pretty good.

How long have you worked for Steel Green Manufacturing, and why did you choose to work here?

I have been working at Steel Green for almost three years. I chose to work here because I was experienced in this type of work previously, which made it a great fit.

What do you do at Steel Green Manufacturing?

I work on the line building uprights, mostly. Whether the machine will be standard or have more bells and whistles, I am the one that makes sure the upright is put together correctly. I will also jump in at any point in the building process to help keep the work as fluid as possible.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I enjoy the meticulous nature of building uprights. There are many small parts, and each needs to be put together precisely. That type of challenge keeps me on my toes and makes the workday fly by.

How do you like to spend your time when you’re not at work?

When I am not at work, I like to stay busy. I love hunting, especially deer hunting. I also compete in archery, and I travel to Ohio frequently for archery competitions.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Most people do not know I have a woodworking shop in my garage. I’m always building shelves, chairs, and other items along those lines. My grandma has one of my favorite pieces. It’s a table with an octagon top that has a bookshelf on the inside and a built-in lamp.

How long have you worked for Steel Green Manufacturing, and why did you choose to work here?

I have been a Steel Green employee for close to four years now. I chose to work here because it’s not monotonous. Each workday brings something different.

What do you do at Steel Green Manufacturing?

I wear multiple hats at Steel Green. Depending on the day, I can take on different things. Right now, I am shipping and receiving parts, but if I am needed, I can fill in for a welder or help build machines on the line.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I like that my job is not repetitive and can change quickly in one shift. I do not prefer to be doing the same tasks all the time. If I had to pick one job I like the most out of all the jobs I could do in a day, I would say welding. I like to weld.

How do you like to spend your time when you’re not at work?

I enjoy trying out different types of authentic food. I have a group of friends that get together on the weekends to test out new restaurants. We recently gave Salvadorian food a try. When I am not seeking out new restaurants, I like to hang out with my two grandkids at parks and play in the snow with them.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Most people do not know I lost the tip of one of my fingers in an accident. I also love to watch Seinfeld. I don’t have a favorite episode because I like them all.
